ESHER SHORE NEWS- 2008

1. MBUK SHORE SHOWDOWN SUNDAY 29th JUNE

The date has finally been confirmed for the 2008 Esher jam - it is taking place on Sunday 29th June

The MBUK SHORE SHOWDOWN will include both the North Shore park, and the brand new Slopestyle park, which will be opened for the first time on the day of Jam

For existing Esher Shore members, it will cost £10 to ride in the Jam , and for non-members £20 which includes a year's membership

Expect to see the UK's best Freeriders and Dirt Jumpers in attendance, and plenty of swag to be given out by the Jam's sponsors

Its set to be a great day out, and as one of very few UK Freeride events during the year, make sure you come over and join in the fun!

More information can be found here SHOWDOWN

2. ESHER SHORE OPEN DURING WET WEATHER

Esher Shore is a great place to ride during wet weather, its one of the few places in the South-East that is weather resistant

The Shore Park trails are fully chicken-wired and the clay elements of the trails are well drained so its available to ride during all year round...even during rain or snow showers!

3. CHANGES TO ENTRY REQUIREMENTS - IMPORTANT PLEASE READ

As from January 2007, all riders are required to have fully-operational front and rear brakes on their bikes

Any riders coming to ride with only a rear brake will not be able to ride until a front brake is fitted

During 2006, much damage was done to the chicken wire and dirt sections by riders skidding their wheels in an attempt to slow down

It is well recognized that riders with front and rear brakes have more control over their bikes, and are less prone to skidding and crashes

We are keen to improve rider safety and reduce accidents, and require that riders should have proper control of their bikes in all situations

4. MEMBERSHIP RENEWALS - PLEASE READ

As from January 2007, all riders will be required to renew their membership on an annual basis, at a cost of £10

For riders who joined during 2007, your membership will still be valid until 1 year has passed from your date of joining

Riders will not be required to complete any additional paperwork, as we still retain your liability waiver and medical details

If you are unsure of the date you joined, please ask when signing in and we can let you know when your membership will lapse

Introducing annual membership renewals will help to fund the ever increasing costs of insuring and running the bike park

5. MEMBERSHIP CARDS - PLEASE READ

Due to a new ruling from our insurance company, all riders MUST present their membership card in order to ride at Esher Shore

It is your responsibility to keep your membership card safe, so put it in your wallet and please don't lose it !

In the past we have accepted membership numbers without a card, and checked on the database, but our insurers have insisted this now stops

Due to a recent legal action, our insurers are insisting that all members present a valid membership card before riding at Esher Shore

Any riders without a membership card now have an invalid membership, and must join again at the usual membership price

It costs us considerable time and money to print the cards and membership packs, and have our staff administer the database system, so we cannot issue new cards for free

If you are under 18 years of age, this includes having your parent or guardian sign a new liability waiver - with 4,500 members we cannot search through folders of paperwork looking for your old waiver

There are NO EXCEPTIONS to this ruling from our insurer, so please keep your card safe to prevent any inconvenience and extra expense!

6. THE FUTURE OF THE DIRT JUMP PARK: SLOPE STYLE

Esher Dirt  proved to be very difficult to maintain during 2007, following several heavy rainstorms and ongoing drainage and dirt quality issues

Without a full-time, multi-man work crew, maintaining a large set of public dirt jump trails is nearly next to impossible

We feel that dirt jumpers already have their needs serviced by arguably better quality and more complex dirt jump trails in the local area

A decision has been made to rebuild the Esher Dirt Jump park and re-work the site to create a brand new riding facility; the dirt will be recycled and combined with selected elements of North Shore timber stunts to create a "Slope Style" park

Expect to see timber 1/4 pipe take off ramps and dirt wedge landings, jump boxes, wall rides, disconnected tables and other cool stunts

This will provide an exciting venue for progressive riders who are looking for somewhere great to learn new tricks or just session

The Slope Style park will be open to all Esher Shore members, and will be suitable for both intermediate and advanced riders

We are particularly keen to make sure the Slope Style park is accessible to riders on full-suspension bikes, as well as those using dirt jump hardtails

The Slope Style park will be a long term project, which will develop as more money is available and the trail crew have spare time to build new stunts

More info about the Slopestyle park is available HERE
